FAQ

How do home visits work?

A home visit from Kintra Vet can often be less stressful than visiting a veterinary practice, for both you and your pet. After spending some time getting to know your pet, our friendly vet will undertake a detailed clinical examination. Having a relaxed pet in a familiar environment, can give our clinicians a much more organic overview of your pet's health. This allows an increased likelihood of more fulfilling and often less frequent visits. Each visit lasts around 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to chat things through without feeling rushed.

What happens if my pet needs surgery?

We are proud to offer a well-equipped surgical suite designed with your pet's comfort and care in mind. We operate an 'appointment only' service meaning we can ensure a controlled environment where your pet's well being is our priority. This means nervous or anxious pets can feel more at ease without the stress of a busy reception area.

Please note that while we are currently unable to provide imaging services such as scans and x-rays on site (watch this space!), we work closely with trusted industry colleagues to ensure your pet receives prompt and expert care should these services be required.

How do I Pay?

For added convenience, our vets come to your home equipped with mobile payment devices, making it easy for you to settle your bill. We accept both card and cash payments.

Please note that we require a £30 booking fee for all routine appointments and a £60 booking fee for surgical appointments, which will be deducted from your total bill at the time of payment. Booking fees are non-refundable if the appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

Which areas do you cover?

Our preferred mode of transport is by Clydesdale however, we are aware of the impracticalities of this so we have our Kintra van as a back up!

We currently cover Hamilton, East Kilbride, Blantyre, Cambuslang, Bothwell, Uddingston, Larkhall and most other surrounding areas for routine appointments. We are already working hard to expand our service area; for updates please follow our social media pages!

One-off visits for euthanasia can be requested out with these areas however we may need to include a small surcharge.

Do you accept insurance claims?

Yes we do, we have a dedicated staff member who handles insurance claims, and there is a £12 admin fee associated with processing these claims. Please note that we are unable to offer a credit facility, so payment must be made upfront and can be claimed back later. However, for clients insured with Vetsure only, we are now able to accept direct claims.

How much does it cost?

For all appointments and surgeries we require a non-refundable booking fee to be paid at the time of booking which will then be deducted from your final bill. For any appointments or surgeries cancelled on the day, then the booking fee becomes a cancellation fee.

Recommendations

We will only ever recommend a service provider if we have used them ourselves. Ask us about cremation services, behaviour consultants and preventative health care plans!

We are unable to offer advice on insurance companies, boarding kennels, catteries, groomers or dog walking services.

My pet is poorly but I don't have an appointment....

If you are a client of ours then don't worry - we've got you covered! Each day we assign emergency slots to accommodate situations that require our urgent attention. We have trained staff who know how and when, to prioritise call outs and arrange them accordingly.

Do you offer out-of-hours emergency care?

We are not able to offer care out with regular working hours at the moment. Please contact Emergency Vets Glasgow on 0141 260 5555 or Vets Now on 0141 328 7513 for any out-of-hours emergencies.

Do you work with breeders?

We will only ever work with a breeder that is reputable and responsible. Due to the nature of our home visit consultations, we are able to assess not just the overall health of the litters, but also the environment in which they are being cared for. We work with our breeders to ensure each litter of pups or kittens has had thorough health checks, necessary vaccinations and good nutrition. As with the babies, Mum's health is always of top priority and we make sure she gets a thorough health check and offer advice to owners regarding her needs. If our Vet is satisfied that the animals are happy and healthy, then she will sign each litter mate off with a certificate to say just how wonderful they are!

Do you work with rescue pets?

Absolutely! Rescuing a pet can be extremely challenging but massively rewarding. We work closely with various rescue charities and can offer behaviour advice and consultations, nutritional recommendations and health checks to make sure everything is 'hunky dory'.
